Hi. John thanks for the message.
Yes, you are right I did use "Hawk" as an outcross to "Alice" which produced Jim boy's "Fred", who was mated to both my "Lisa" and to Fred Walker's son Brov's "Cheetah" producing my bitch "Fly" and my dog "Stalk" respectively. "Fly" was the dam of "Razor" whilst "Stalk" was the sire of both "Buck" and "Roy". (See Gallery).

I also outcrossed to another of your blood, bred on by Paddy Prosser, which I called "Paddy"- he was sired by "Buddy" a full brother of "Hawk" out of Paddy's bitch "Whisper", who was sired by "Breeze" out of Paddy's "Fly" (a quarter bred collie bitch). You bred "Breeze" by your "Troy" out of "Mischief" and I recommended Paddy to buy the pup from you, remember? Paddy caught over 50 (53 I think) hares with "Breeze" before he got injured (hip) at 15 or 16 months old. Your "Troy" was by Reg.Kidd's "Troy" (sired by "Percy") out of "Tommy Allen's Bitch" ("Laddie-The-Accident" to "Queenie"). I recommended you to buy the pup off Reg. when you were starting out in Match-dogs, because it was line bred on Davis's "Laddie". "Laddie" was also great-great-grandsire of Brov's "Cheetah" through Wayne's "Duke".

When I outcross to sighthound coursing breeding, only the best is good enough, and it's good to hear that your own breeding turned out to be worth continuing, and you now also being mates with Fred Holmes, whose stud dogs (such as "Charlie") dominate the Match-coursing game at the present time.

These dogs are specialist sporting / gambling strains, not the old fashioned stealth poaching lurchers / tumblers, although I believe they get their superior striking ability from a bitch of the old blood, called "Red" (owned by "Bluey" Drake and known as "The-One-Eyed-Bitch") which was Fen coursing Champion 30+ years ago! Fred Holmes father "Bunny" will remember this bitch, John. That is what gives them superiority over just straight salukie/greyhounds, in my opinion. That is why they are the best strains to use as outcross back to the old strains.

So, if anyone is browsing this site and thinking of acquiring a Match/gambling sighthound (where second is last, because you've lost your bet) they couldn't do better than get a pup from the litter John currently has, and give themselves a chance to be first. E-Mail Josie with your contact telephone number if interested and she will pass it on. These are specialist high performance sighthounds, not what I recommend as family pets, please note.

It's great to hear from an old friend John (we'll have to rename the site "Old-Rogues-United"). Look after your dogs because they are only as good as their owners!

Jeff.
P.S. I have since heard that JOHN has got a superbly bred pure salukie dog of impeccable bloodlines for coursing standing at stud, again if interested e-mail Josie who will pass on your telephone no to JOHN.
